Health visitor baby/ child milestone checks occur at key stages to monitor physical development, language, social skills, and growth.

These checks typically happen at:​

• 6-8 weeks: review of feeding, sleep, and parental emotional well-being. 

• 9-12 months: review of communication, language, learning, and physical skills (e.g., sitting, crawling)

• 2-2.5 years: review of language, diet, behaviour, and social development as the child approaches toddlerhood. 

What Milestone Checks Cover:

• Physical Ability: Motor skills such as lifting the head, sitting up, crawling, and walking.

• Language and Communication: Babbling, listening, responding to sounds, and using gestures.

• Social & Cognitive: Eye contact, smiling, playing peek-a-boo, and interest in surroundings.

• Measurements: Weight, length, and head circumference
